The Wonders of Thanksgiving | The Seven Wonders | Storytelling Therapy

Summary

Storytelling Therapy and Life Coaching by Shelley Carney provides the viewer with a new experience in relaxation and meditation using our most basic human love of stories and a soothing, ASMR quality voice. Starting with quotes from the I Ching, Byron Katie, Eckhart Tolle, Wayne Dyer, Oprah Winfrey, Stephen Covey, Alan Cohen, Ralph Marston, Robert Louis Stevenson, Robert Collier and others, these integrated stories bring life coaching concepts into full use and help us to create a more fulfilling and joyful experience.

“The Seven Wonders” tells a story of a poor girl from a small village who attends school in the city and teaches a valuable lesson to the people she meets.

Gratitude Improves Your Emotional Life

Being grateful can improve our positivity ratio. The positivity ratio is defined as your frequency of positive emotions over any given time span, divided by your frequency of negative emotions over the same time span. People above a 3-to-1 ratio flourish and create upward spirals for themselves; people below a 1-to-1 ratio perish and create downward spirals for themselves.

Gratitude promotes pro-social behavior, resulting in more and better friendships. Self-focus, which diminishes with gratitude practice, has been shown to ruin people’s relationships, reduce their resiliency, and damage their health and emotional well-being.

Just like humility and gratitude go hand in hand, so do spirituality and gratitude. Materialism and gratitude are mutually exclusive; as one goes up the other comes down. Research shows that as you become more focused on external stuff, you become less grateful. On the flipside, as you become more grateful, you start edging out materialistic thoughts.

Gratitude is a thankful appreciation for what an individual receives, whether tangible or intangible. With gratitude, people acknowledge the goodness in their lives. In the process, people usually recognize that the source of that goodness lies at least partially outside themselves. As a result, gratitude also helps people connect to something larger than themselves as individuals — whether to other people, nature, or a higher power.

Gratitude is a way for people to appreciate what they have instead of always reaching for something new in the hopes it will make them happier, or thinking they can’t feel satisfied until every physical and material need is met. Gratitude helps people refocus on what they have instead of what they lack. Happiness and satisfaction grow stronger with gratitude practice.

The subtle shift from gratitude to appreciation involves being more present, more thoughtfully aware and active in reflecting on the reasons we feel grateful about something

or someone. When we truly have appreciation, we bring to mind what specific qualities about someone, or something makes us feel brighter, lighter, happier, more inspired, energized, and loved.
